The remains of the "Tanesato-castle"
(Lord Mitusnobu hall)

Remembered as the founder of the Tsugaru fiefdom, Lord Mitsunobu Ohura first settled here. After conquering neighboring areas, he moved his base to Ohura castle (near Hirosaki). Lord Tamenobu (fifth generation descendant of Lord Mitsunobu) would complete the unification of the Tsugaru region. Here, at Tanesato-castle, we find the beginnings of the Tsugaru fiefdom.

Lord Mitusnobu's Grave

The grave of Lord Mitsunobu, who died in 1526, is in a section of the castle ruins.

It is said that in accordance with his will, Lord Mitsunobu was buried in his armour with his sword: A manner of burial that is worthy of a general's dignity.

Mysteriously, to this day, not a single weed has grown on the site of the grave.

Peony festival in Lord Mitusnobu hall

In the front yard of the remains of the Tanesato-castle, are about 1,000 peonies, who's large flowers bloom from late May to early June. The peony is the emblem of the Tsugaru family.

At the festival, one can be soaked in the romance of Tsugaru in the Middle Ages, and witness the splendid beauty of the peonies.
